The topic of cybersecurity for critical infrastructure is a very topical one, due to the extremely accelerated growth of decentralization and digitization of energy systems: “I believe that the topic of cybersecurity for critical infrastructure is a very topical one, first of all due to the extremely accelerated growth of decentralization and digitization of energy systems, because, on the one hand, digitization brings with it a series of threats to the security of information systems, but the decentralization of energy production, which we see today through the emergence of consumers and small distributed sources of production, will expose energy systems to the need for security in supply and electricity generation, mainly much larger.

Present at the Cyber Resilience Forum, an event organized by the Romanian Energy Center Association, in partnership with the Euro-Atlantic Center for Resilience subordinated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Corneliu Bodea also said that it is a good time for Romania to bring together, on the one hand, the state authorities, on the other hand, the operators of critical networks and infrastructure, but also to create a long-term joint project, which aims at investments and development of systems so that they are as little exposed as possible to cyber risks.

“I would like to add that it is obvious that the future will mean multiplying the exposure of critical infrastructure systems to various types of attacks, both in terms of increasing digitalization and additional exposure of systems to this type of attacks, but also in terms of the unpredictability and lack of geopolitical stability that we, unfortunately, are observing during this time. I do not think that in the medium and long term, geopolitical stability will experience a significant improvement. I believe that we will live, as a large part of the experts in geopolitical analysis say, a time of unpredictability from this point of view. That is why it is all the more important for Romania to deal with the subject of critical infrastructure security in a much more careful and pragmatic way”
